Objectives To support teachers to introduce mathematical modelling in the classroom.
Description of material The teacher course is designed for up to 5 days of teacher learning. The training course consists of 5 modules: 1. Modelling; 2. Tasks; 3. Lessons; 4. Assessment; 5. Reflecting. Each module has between 2 and 4 sub-modules. Each sub-module has a range of different materials: Trainer guide; Powerpoint Presentation to be used to run a professional development session with teachers; Resources that are needed by trainers when working with teachers; Teacher Diaries to encourage reflection on issues raised in the professional development sessions. In addition, the training course is supported by collection of modelling tasks, which teachers could use in their classrooms. All the materials were produced during the project Learning and Education in and through Modelling and Applications (LEMA) funded by EU Comenius Programme in 2006-2009.

Comments (PD providers, teachers…) The material is modular. It is easy to understand as it provides much information for PD providers. It gives an extensive introduction into modelling. Therefore it is not recommended for short workshops. It needs some time of preparation as many documents have to be read. The PD concept is based on teachers working collaboratively.
