Objectives To involve teachers in series of activities that seek to support teaching mathematics for low attainers.
Description of material This workshop will enable school team to consider the entitlement of low-attaining students through your mathematics curriculum. The activities explore values and beliefs, definitions of mathematical attainment and mathematical ability, alternative presentations of learning activities, and how different representations of situations aid understanding. Some resources will need to be prepared in advance. The materials for departmental workshop include overview and a number of resource sheets. The departmental workshops have been written to provide school mathematics team with structured professional development to be delivered in-house utilising members’ expertise and knowledge. Materials could be used for self-guided learning too. Departmental workshops’ material was developed by National Centre for Exellence in the Teaching of Mathematics.
