|Objectives||To involve teachers in series of activities that seek to support teaching mathematics in heterogeneous (mixed ability) groups.|
|Description of material||This departamental workshop consist of teacher discussions, work in small groups, development of a model of instruction. Teachers explore the following aspects: their beliefs about the possibility to differentiate teaching to meet the needs of all learners in a single classroom; how to organize classrooms to enable all students to succeed; how students should be grouped and the work differentiated.
The materials for departmental workshop include overview and a number of resource sheets. The departmental workshops have been written to provide school mathematics team with structured professional development to be delivered in-house utilising members’ expertise and knowledge. Materials could be used for self-guided learning too.
Departmental workshops’ material was developed by National Centre for Exellence in the Teaching of Mathematics, 2010.
