Increasing Pupils’ Rates of Progress in Science Training Materials

Objectives To raise standards in science by ensuring clear expectations for pupils’ progress of between one and two levels over Key Stage 3. To identify a number of key strategies for improving progress for all pupils in science. To consider the actions science subject leaders will take in their own departments to lead the changes associated with increasing pupils’ progress.
Description of material This resource is a unit of the UK National Strategies: Science. It is structured in four sessions. They cover such topics as: Establishing a climate for learning that supports good progress in science; Building explicitly on students’ experience of learning in science on entering Year 7; Improving pupils’ progress in scientific enquiry; Managing the learning demand. The material consists of: tutors notes, training slides for the session, participants resource pack, scientific enquiry cards, participants notes, videoclips. All the materials were produced by the Department for Education, UK 2004.
