Objectives To involve teachers in series of activities that seek to support teaching mathematics in heterogeneous (mixed ability) groups.
Description of material This departamental workshop consist of teacher discussions, work in small groups, development of a model of instruction. Teachers explore the following aspects: their beliefs about the possibility to differentiate teaching to meet the needs of all learners in a single classroom; how to organize classrooms to enable all students to succeed; how students should be grouped and the work differentiated.

The materials for departmental workshop include overview and a number of resource sheets. The departmental workshops have been written to provide school mathematics team with structured professional development to be delivered in-house utilising members’ expertise and knowledge. Materials could be used for self-guided learning too.

Departmental workshops’ material was developed by National Centre for Exellence in the Teaching of Mathematics, 2010.
