University of Duisburg-Essen

University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) is a major German university with a broad spectrum of faculties, and most of them are involved in teacher education. Empirical research in education is one of the five main research areas at UDE, and teacher trainers and educational researchers are brought together at the Centre for Empirical Educational Research (ZeB).

Since 2011 the German Centre for professional development of mathematics teachers (DZLM) has been hosted by UDE and six other universities. This is the only nationwide German centre for the professional development of mathematics teachers in Germany. The mission of DZLM is primarily to provide high quality professional development (PD) for teachers in mathematics, develop materials and guidelines for PD, and communicate with stakeholders.

University of Duisburg-Essen, through Prof. Dr. Günter Törner, is the leading partner for intellectual output O5 in the STEM PD NET project: PD centre models: context, mission, structure and activities.
