Working with other departments

Objectives To help the department identify and discuss where mathematics features in other subject areas as well as highlight consistency.
Description of material During the workshop teachers identify where mathematics features in other subjects, discuss possibilities for collaborative working with other departments and develop programme for cross-curricula integration, for example numeracy across the curriculum (producing a whole school policy); improving links with other departmental areas; working collaboratively on a cross-curricular project or theme. The materials for departmental workshop include overview and a number of resource sheets. The departmental workshops have been written to provide school mathematics team with structured professional development to be delivered in-house utilising members’ expertise and knowledge. Materials could be used for self-guided learning too. Departmental workshops’ material was developed by National Centre for Exellence in the Teaching of Mathematics.
